Is transparency preserved?

Yes. WebP fully supports alpha transparency, so transparent backgrounds and soft edges survive the conversion in both lossy and lossless mode. Nothing gets flattened.

Should I use lossy or lossless WebP?

For photographs, lossy at the default quality gives the biggest savings with no visible difference. For logos, icons, screenshots and graphics with text or sharp edges, lossless keeps every pixel exact and still beats PNG on size.

How much smaller than PNG will it be?

Lossless WebP is typically around 25 percent smaller than an optimized PNG. Lossy WebP can be 5 to 10 times smaller for photographic content. The preview shows the measured size before you commit.

Do all browsers support WebP?

Yes, all modern browsers display WebP natively. Only very old software cannot open it, in which case keeping a PNG copy makes sense.
